QoTD: Poetry

“A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness.”

Robert Frost

All of my writing, poetry included is motivated by the pain and chaos that I feel, by the desire to heal and live a more fully connected and present life.

What motivates your writing?

  1. For me, writing is where I get to let out all of the horrible thoughts, feelings and memories without hurting anyone else. It’s where I can doodle and draw silly things and just let my mind do what it needs to do.
Most of the time I’ll be driven to start writing when I’m feeling overwhelmed. A lot of the time I’ll end up crying but sometimes I will also rage write–I’ll press hard with a big red pen and just let all of my anger out onto paper–and end up destroying the piece of paper I’m working with.
Sometimes I will share what I’ve written and other times I’ll throw it into a fire and burn it. T doesn’t like when I burn my journals–he wants me to keep them forever–but sometimes I just have to. :/
I have quite a few journals right now. Most of them have all the pages filled, but some I just had to close and stop writing in so they’re half finished. I think I hope that one day I can open them again and finish them.
Have you ever heard of ‘Wreck This Journal’ by Keri Smith? I’m thinking of doing something like that with one of mine. Just making up random things having to do with my past traumas to see what happens.
