Adult Children of Alcoholics & Trauma: a discussion

While traumas may differ, the affects and the manifestation of symptoms is often similar.

According to the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, 1 in 5 adults in America grew up with one alcoholic relative as a child. These children are at risk for growing up with what is referred to as the “laundry list” of personality traits and negative coping skills.

Colleen first joined me on episode 11 of Survivors Speak LIVE where she shared her story of childhood trauma as the child of an alcoholic mother.

On this topic focused show, Colleen and I met up again for a LIVE chat, this time to talk about her advocacy work for other Children of Alcoholics.

It has been such an honor to watch her community on Instagram grow as other adult children of alcoholics come together with understanding to support each other through the struggles of healing from these childhood wounds.

Listen along to our discussion as she shares her journey of healing and her personal drive to raise awareness.
